A live demo dedicated to real-time wearable cardiac monitoring has been selected as a finalist for the ‘Best Demo Award’ at the IEEE Sensors Conference 2025, one of the leading international events in the field of sensors and intelligent systems.
The demo, entitled ‘A vAFE-based Wearable for Real-Time ECG Monitoring and Analysis’, presents a wearable device for real-time ECG acquisition and analysis, designed for continuous, non-invasive monitoring of cardiac activity. The system allows full access to raw data and on-device signal processing, thanks to the on-the-edge implementation of an advanced algorithm for identifying the main characteristics of the ECG.

The work was coordinated by researcher Mariangela Filosa and has PhD student Federica Durini as its first author, within the Neuro-Robotic Touch Lab of the Institute of Biorobotics at the Sant'Anna School, and is the result of collaboration with TD Group and ARTES 4.0. The result obtained at the IEEE Sensors Conference 2025 testifies to the strong synergy between basic research, technological development and real-world applications promoted by THE – Tuscany Health Ecosystem. In particular, the scientific knowledge acquired within THE on the physiology of autonomic functions, such as cardiac activity, was the starting point for the development of advanced algorithms for real-time ECG analysis.
